Lancers Fall to the Hands of Coal Grove

The Lancers offense came out firing on all cylinders Tuesday night, handling the fast pace offense and scrappy press defense from Coal Grove. Federal Hocking knocked down jumpers and forced the Hornet’s offense to fold up in the first half – leading by a score of 25-24 heading into the second half.
It wasn’t meant to last. In the second half, Coal Grove left Fed Hock in the dust as Corey Borders and Aaron Music lit a spark under the Hornets offense. Out came the scary, fast-paced duo and there was no looking back.
Coal Grove would take this one by a final score of 70-42 over Federal Hocking.
Bradley Russell and Wes Carpenter would lead the way today for the Lancers. Russell would finish with a solid eight points and would also finish with a team-high of 11 rebounds on the night. Carpenter wouldn’t fall far behind as he would put up a team high of nine points.
“They carried us a lot tonight, once they click they all click, they were dishearten tonight,” said Lancers’ head coach Jonathan Thompson.
But late in the fourth when the Lancers needed one last fight, Ian Miller would enter the game a get it done. Miller would finish with seven points and three rebounds all in the fourth quarter.
For Coal Grove, Borders and Music would be the right guys for the job. Borders would finish with a game high 25 points and would help out the defense by chalking up six steals. Music would finish with a great night on the stat sheet as he would put up 17 points, 12 rebounds, and a team high seven steals.
After the hard loss, Thompson discussed what he told his boys. “I was proud of them, our record does not really say everything that we have accomplished this year,” he said. The Lancers finished the season 6-17 overall and 5-11 TVC-Hocking.
The team has much to look forward to next year, as they return all five of their starters to the lineup. With more growth bound to happen, the Lancer boys, much like their girls’ team, have the potential to be a force next year.
