Middleport Man Pleads Not Guilty In Murder Case
< < Back to 237393ATHENS (WOUB) — A man accused in the death of a Shade man entered a plea of not guilty in Athens County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday.
Andy Doczi, 37, of Middleport, was arraigned in Common Pleas Court on charges of aggravated murder, murder, tampering with evidence and having weapons while under disability, according to court records. He was indicted in the case on June 3.
Doczi was arrested in May, after the body of Andrew Everett, 33, was found at 15010 Fossil Rock Road, with a single gunshot wound to the head. Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith said Doczi admitted to “pointing a weapon towards Everett and firing a single shot,” according to a press release at the time of Doczi’s arrest.
In a court appearance the day after his arrest, Doczi was placed on $1 million bond with 10 percent allowed. He is still being housed at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
Common Pleas Judge Patrick Lang scheduled a pre-trial hearing in the case for August 14, and a jury trial for October 22.
