Week In Review: Lady Tomcats’ Historic Win Over Waterford Highlights Another Solid Week
< < Back to ?p=247675GLOUSTER, Ohio – It may have taken a little more than 14 years, but the wait was worth it Thursday night as the Lady Tomcats defeated the Waterford Lady Wildcats 48-37. It was the first time the Lady Tomcats beat the Lady Wildcats since 2005.
Trimble handed the five-time defending TVC-Hocking champs the loss behind a balanced offensive effort by the Lady Tomcats. Emily Young led the way for the Tomcats with 17 points and five assists. Laikyn Imler and Brianna Orsborne also got into double figures with Imler tallying 10 points and Orsborne adding 12 points of her own. Jayne Six finished with another solid performance with nine points and 11 rebounds.
It was a tight game the majority of the way with Trimble leading by five at the start of the fourth quarter. With less than six minutes left to play, Orsborne scored on a layup to put the Tomcats up five, then followed that up by scoring on a scoop-and-score, giving the Lady Tomcats a 35-28 lead with 5:41 left to play. Trimble didn’t let up from the gas pedal, extending their lead to 14 with 2:08 left before eventually winning by 11.
The Lady Tomcats’ second game of the week was just as good as the first one. The Lady Tomcats had revenge in their mind and delivered that in a dominating 62-47 fashion on Monday night in Belpre against the team who knocked them out the year prior in the postseason.
With these two wins, the Lady Tomcats improve to 10-2 on the year and with the win on Thursday, they hold a two-game lead on Waterford for the Hocking lead as they sit at 8-0 in conference play.
The Lady Tomcats aren’t the only ones dominating so far. The Trimble boys squad is holding their own as well. Another week of action and it’s the same story line again. The Tomcats continue to get better and better.
On Tuesday, they defended their homecourt and took down the White Falcons of Wahama in a dominating fashion, 90-37. They followed that up by hitting the road to take on TVC-Ohio foe, Wellston, on Friday and they took care of business yet again, defeating the Rockets 49-27.
However, on Saturday the Tomcats travelled to Chesapeake High School to participate in the “Beasts of the Southeast Tournament” and they faced a tough Peebles team. Unfortunately, they didn’t come out on top as they fell 69-50.
On the bright side, it’s only one game against a non-conference opponent. There will be more games and the Tomcats will be able to build from this loss. They still stand at a respectable 9-3 after going 2-1 this week. They’ll look to rebound next week as they hit the road for three games in one week. They’ll play Waterford and Eastern in some pivotal Hocking games before playing their arch rival, Nelsonville-York, on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Lady Tomcats will travel to Nelsonville too to play the Lady Buckeyes, but not before playing Eastern and the Lady Lancers of Federal Hocking. The Lady Tomcats currently hold a two-game lead in the TVC-Hocking standings so it will be interesting to see how they respond to the pressure.
