Men’s basketball: Ohio rises in national polls

When mid-major basketball teams win on the road, people pay attention.
Ohio men's basketball jumped in two national polls Monday, less than a week after its best win of the season came in Cedar Rapids against Northern Iowa.
The Panthers were 10-1 and ranked inside the top-10 nationally in RPI, but the Bobcats crushed UNI by 17. For that, and Ohio's 16-point win over North Carolina A&T, the Bobcats got 20 votes in the Associated Press poll and five in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll.
Ohio (11-1) is ranked 31st in the country by the AP and 32nd in America in the coaches poll. The Bobcats also boast a national RPI of 15, according to CBSSports.com.
John Groce's club will stay at home for its next two games, on Dec. 30 against Kennesaw State and Jan. 2 against Robert Morris, before Mid-American Conference play begins.
The best start in school history is 12-1, by the 1920-21 Bobcat team, which only played 17 games that season.
