After a slow start in the first half, Mallory Hawley and the Marauders experienced a second half explosion that pushed them ahead for a 61-35 victory.
The Marauders dynamic backcourt of Jennifer Parker and Hawley struggled to find the bottom of the basket in the first half which allowed the Golden Rockets to keep the score close, heading into the locker down 23-17.
“We were sluggish in the first half,” head coach Heath Hudson said. “It took us a little while to get going. But eventually we got the wheels turning so it turned out alright.”
After only tallying three points in the first half and shooting 0/5 from the field, Hawley caught fire, shooting 6/7 and lead the team with 17 points.
“Coach [Hudson] was pretty disappointed in me and the rest of the team,” Hawley said. “But he likes to light a fire under us if we are not playing very good and he did.”
Hawley was not the only player that contributed to the second half explosion.
Parker finished with 12 points including back-to-back-to-back three pointers off of Hawley assists.
Rylee Lisle also contributed in a major way, ending the night with 15 points including three three pointers of her own.
Meigs outscored Wellston by 20 points in the second half, 38-18.
With this victory, the Marauders now move up to fourth in the TVC standings.
