South Gallia Rebels stop Eastern Eagles’ flight path to second win of the season
< < Back to ?p=276729CROWN CITY, Ohio (WOUB) — The Eastern Eagles traveled to Crown City in hopes to get their second win of the season over the South Gallia Rebels.
Eastern came out the gates cold going down 5-0 quick due to some quick fouls and lazy possessions on the offensive end that led to blocks from South Gallia big man Brayden Hammond.
The Eagles fought back through the rest of the quarter and went into the second quarter with a lead. Eastern held this lead until halfway through the quarter when South Gallia began taking advantage of the Eagles defense and went into the half up 25-18.
The Rebels tried to put the games to rest in the third quarter taking multiple 12 point leads throughout the quarter, but Eastern was able to claw their way back into the game with multiple huge buckets from Trey Hill who finished with a game high 21 points. The Rebels ended the quarter 32-26.
The fourth quarter started back and forth with both teams matching buckets until South Gallia was able to take advantage of a few sloppy offensive possessions from the Eagles and take a 11 point lead. The Eagles tried to fight back playing scrappy defense and were able to get the game within 5 with 2 minutes left. South Gallia was able to hold off the Eagles to earn the 52-41 Victory.
Coach Kight talked about how free throws affected the Eagles chances of pulling this game out “When we get the opportunity to go to the line we got to make the free throws. We were 8/23 but we missed 4 front ends of 1-1’s so really you’re 8/27 and you’re not going to win a close ball game against anybody shooting 8/27 from the free throw line.”
The Eagles hope to clean up these few mistakes and get back into the win column against state ranked Trimble on Friday.
