Copperheads Clinch Regular Season Crown
< < Back to copperheads-clinch-regular-season-crownThis year's version of the Southern Ohio Copperheads has done something no other version has: clinch the regular season crown.
With losses from the Hamilton Joes and Cincinnati Steam yesterday, the Copperheads clinched the regular season title for the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League South Division.
The Snakes are in the midst of a nine-game winning streak and are 26-12 overall.
With a four-and-a-half and five game lead over the Joes and Steam, respectively, it's now mathematically impossible for either team to make up the deficit.
The Copperheads made a surprising run to the GLSCL Championship game in 2009, but fell to Cincinnati, 4-2.
The team is also getting national recognition. Perfect Game USA, a scouting service that ranks amateur teams nationally, named Southern Ohio the 16th best amateur team in the country this week.
The Copperheads holds a one and a half game lead over the North Division's Lima Locos for the number one overall seed in the GLSCL playoffs.
The team has already earned a bye in the first round, but the top seed is also awarded home field advantage throughout the postseason.
The GLSCL playoffs will start August 3rd.
The Copperheads' last four regular season games are set for this weekend.
