Crooksville’s offense gets started too late against Coshocton

CROOKSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – The first signs of cooler weather were showing in Crooksville for the Homecoming matchup between the Crooksville Ceramics and the Coshocton Redskins.
The Redskins went into this game with only one win and six losses, while Crooksville had three wins and four losses overall.
Things were slow to start in the first quarter. Crooksville’s offense struggled against the Redskins stellar defensive line. Holding penalties were a major struggle for the Ceramics early on, and the Redskins picked up a six-yard touchdown from senior Antwone Jones and an extra point placed them in the lead early.
The Redskins carried their momentum into the second quarter, when Israel Rice had a huge 65-yard run to set up an easy touchdown for Riley Woodie to expand the lead to 14-0 for Coshocton.
Later in the quarter, Evan Unger received a 23-yard pass and once again expanded the lead for the Redskins.
Just before the end of the half, the Christian Browning blew past a defender for a huge 43-yard run to the house for the Ceramics, finally breaking the scoring drought for Crooksville.
Just before halftime, Coshocton scooped up a loose ball on the 23-yard line with only 17 seconds to go. They attempted a field goal on their fourth down, but were unsuccessful, making the score 21-7 going into the second half.
After a special homecoming alumni band performance, both teams returned to the field to battle it out in the second half.
The third quarter saw an improvement in the defensive effort from Crooksville. They were much more efficient at slowing down the run game from Coshocton and were able to force a crucial turnover on downs when the Redskins were inside the 10-yard line.
Just before the end of the quarter, the Redskins found the endzone again with a six-yard run from Antwone Jones. Going into the final stretch, Coshocton led the game 27-7.
In the fourth quarter, the Crooksville team lit up. Christian Browning added another touchdown to the scoreboard for the Ceramics with only a minute of the final quarter elapsed.
However, this effort didn’t last long. The Ceramics failed to find the end zone again, while Coshocton picked up two more touchdowns and wrapped up the game with a final score of 41-14.
Coshocton proved that a record isn’t representative of the talent on a team, and they’re set to face the West Muskingam Tornadoes at home, while Crooksville will compete with New Lexington on their home turf.
