Trimble swept Glenwood in just three sets. The Tigers were unable to score more than seven points on the Tomcats per set.
The Tomcats started off strong. Glenwood’s lack of communication and missed serves led to several Trimble points, which allowed them to get ahead early. Katelynn Coey led the charge in the front row. Coey had an impressive 19 kills on the night, and made the Tigers serve receive struggle. The final score of the first set was 25-7, Trimble.
Trimble kept their energy high in the second set. Head Coach Brandi Lanning pulled her starters out early in the match to give her seniors as much playing-time as possible because games aren’t guaranteed in tournament play.
“We have nine seniors, so it’s really hard to get them in on other games,” Lanning said. “So, we’re really focusing on them, making sure they get playing time for tonight and Wednesday.”
The Tomcat players moved around in multiple positions on the court. Trimble gained confidence this game because they were able to experiment with different player combinations. Trimble won the second set 25-4.
In the third set, the Tomcats did not pull ahead right away like previous sets. Glenwood had the first two points of the third set. Kaelyn Tabor scored the first point of this set with an ace. Trimble and Glenwood tied at 4-4 and then the Tomcats got back to business. Faith Handley’s aggressive play stunned the Tigers throughout the third. Handley had three kills in the set and six in total. The Tomcats took the final set 25-6, winning the match 3-0.
Although this was a tough loss for the Tigers, Glenwood played the whole game as a team. The Tigers did not get down on each other and kept fighting till the end, but the Tomcats still dominated. After this game, the Tomcats are 13-8 on the season. They will play their second tournament game on their home court Wednesday against Paint Valley. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
