POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) — The Meigs Marauders hosted the Federal Hocking Lancers on Monday in a thrilling TVC match-up. Meigs came into their home gym on a mission to sweep the Lancers, but Federal Hocking had a different plan.

The Lancers started strong, keeping the Marauders on their toes with killer defense. Karlee Grimm started strong with three kills early in the set for Federal Hocking. Both teams were battling back and forth but the Lancers began to pull away, capitalizing off of Meigs errors. Who better to finish off the set for Federal Hocking than Grimm with a powerful kill and block, ending the set 25 to 17.

The Marauders came out on fire in the second set, starting an explosive offensive run. Multiple Marauders got kills and aces, Chloe Burnem with three aces and one kill and Makenzie Smith had three kills and one ace as well. The Lancers fought until the very end but the service pressure from the Marauders was too much for Federal Hocking. Meigs won the second set 25 to 22 with an ace from Bella Roush.

“We allowed our energy to fade,” commented Federal Hocking coach Ryan Grimm, “We were hurting ourselves. With eight missed serves, you’re basically handing it to them. So, I told them to go back out in the third set, take the bull by the horns, and go get it.”

Federal Hocking wasn’t ready to give up the game, Grimm demolished the ball for the first point of set three. Lancer libero Brenlee Cottrill put her heart on the court, laying out dig after dig. Her teammates at the net did not disappoint either. With four kills and one ace from Grimm, two kills from Juniper Ballew, and two kills and two blocks from Megan Reichardt, Federal Hocking became unstoppable. The Lady Lancers ended set three 25 to 11 with a smashing block from Reichardt and kill from Markala Goeglein.

Meigs hoped for a comeback in set four, but the Lancers did not show mercy. Ballew started the fourth set with two striking kills. Reichardt continued that energy with four kills and three blocks in that fourth set. Despite a substantial lead, Coach Ryan Grimm called a Lancer timeout after Marauder Taylor Werry serves another ace to the Lancer defense. Reichardt came out of the timeout on fire to finish the set for Federal Hocking. The Lancers took the final set 25 to 17, expanding their winning streak to four.

The Meigs Marauders will stay at home to take on the Wellston Golden Rockets on Tuesday. The Federal Hocking Lancers will travel to the Waterford Wildcats on Thursday.
