Boys Basketball: Trimble Gets First Playoff Win Since 2004

After losses in both regular season meetings with Miller by a combined margin of 36 points, the third time was a charm for the Tomcats, who showed unquestionably their best effort of the season during Tuesday’s comeback victory.
It was a tale of two halves for Trimble, who trailed 26-16 at halftime before outscoring the Falcons 29-18 in the second half to pull off the win. During that second half, Trimble out rebounded Miller 19-11. The Tomcats also outshot the Falcons in the second half, converting on 41% of their shots while holding Miller to just 25% from the field.
Cyrus Jones led the way for the Tomcats with 15 points – 11 of which came in the second half. The senior guard was instrumental in Trimble’s come-from-behind win, creating shot opportunities for himself and for his teammates, and forcing turnovers. Jones also had five rebounds and three steals and hit the game winning free throw with 30 seconds remaining.
Junior center Cody Bragg offered solid inside play for Trimble, compiling eight points and 11 rebounds, and junior guard Wyatt Deak added seven points and three steals for the Tomcats. Altogether, Trimble forced 21 turnovers, while only giving the ball away 14 times.
Junior forward Skylar Hook had 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for Miller on the night.
With the win, Trimble (3-17, 1-14 TVC Hocking) advances to the second round of the Meigs Sectional Tournament. The Tomcats’ next playoff game is on February 29 against Southern (16-3, 12,3 TVC Hocking). Trimble has a makeup game against conference opponent Wahama (10-11, 9-6 TVC Hocking) on Thursday.
