Boys Basketball: Trimble can’t extend playoff run against Southern

Turnovers and poor shooting ultimately led to the Tomcats’ demise. Trimble had a struggle shooting from the field going 13/54 and was plagued by turnovers, giving up the ball 26 times.
From the opening tip Southern had the game under control. To start the game the Tornadoes went on an 11-2 run and never looked back. The first quarter ended with Southern leading Trimble 16-6.
The second half was almost identical to the first as the Southern offense had complete control. The Tornadoes won the quarter 17-4 to go into the locker room at half leading the Tomcats 33-10.
The game didn’t get easier for Trimble in the second half. Southern continued to shoot well from the three-point line and would eventually finish going 6/16 from beyond the arc. The Tornadoes would finish the game going 21/52 from the field. Southern would top the Tomcats 14-7 in the third quarter, and lead the game 47-17.
The fourth quarter was an even matchup between the two teams as both rotated in players off the bench. Southern began to close in on Trimble in the turnover category finishing with 21. Trimble would win the fourth quarter 14-12, but the game had already gotten away from them.
Leading the way for Trimble was Cyrus Jones with 9 points and 6 rebounds. He was followed by four other Tomcats who finished with 4 points.
Leading the way for Southern was Andrew Roseberry with 15 points. Roseberry was supported by teammates Ethan Martin with 13 points and Ryan Taylor with 10 points.
Southern advances to district play and will face Manchester. The game takes place at 6:15pm on March 6th at the Ohio University Convocation Center.
