The Ohio women’s basketball team’s senior leader, Tenishia Benson, has been named to the Mid American Conference Women’s basketball’s first team. Benson’s award is the first for the program since 2007-08 when Lauren Kohn received the honors.

Benson does it all for the Cats and has scored in double figures in 24 of the 27 games she has played in this season. She is averaging 14.6 points per game on the year and a little over seven rebounds a game. Benson is also averaging 81.4 percent from the free throw line. Her stats rank in the top ten in the MAC in points per game (4th), field goal percentage (10th), rebounding (7th), free throw percentage (5th), steals (6th) and offensive rebounds (6th).

The red-shirt senior has had an impressive career. She recently hit the 1000- career point mark in the Bobcats close lost to Akron earlier in the season. Benson led the team with 14 points and 14 rebounds in its first round win of the MAC tournament against Kent State. Ohio earned itself a trip to Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland with the win and will face Central Michigan on Wednesday March 7th at 12 p.m.

Other top players from the league joining Benson on the team are: Alexis Rogers (Bowling Green), Brittany Hedderson (Buffalo), Tavelyn James (Eastern Michigan) and Courtney Osborn (Miami).
