AEP Competing Supplier Increase Approved

Ohio regulators have approved a power company's request to increase a fee it charges competing suppliers using its infrastructure to deliver electricity.
The charge approved Wednesday by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for Columbus-based American Electric Power is effective through May.
Suppliers will pay AEP $110 per megawatt day for the first 21 percent of customers in certain categories and $255 per megawatt day beyond that.
If suppliers pass the increase to customers, the change would mean an overall bill increase of about 5 percent.
Commission Chairman Todd Snitchler says the plan strikes a fair balance between AEP and competitors.
AEP had warned it might face financial crisis without the increase. The Office of Consumers' Counsel that advocates for utility customers had opposed the increase.
