Soccer: Ohio Rallies Late to Defeat EKU
< < Back to ?p=4517In a rainy matchup between the Ohio Bobcats and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, Ohio rallied late to come up with a 3-1 victory.
All of Ohio’s goals were scored in the second half, after being down 1-0 early in the game. Maggie Murnane sent the ball to the opposite corner of the goal for a score late in the second quarter and got the momentum going for Ohio. Just moments after her first goal, Murnane scored a header off of a free kick, bringing Ohio to a sudden 2-1 lead.
Within the last few moments of the game, Cathryn Rogers found herself in a one-on-one with EKU’s goalkeeper. And with plenty of time to set up a shot, she scored goal number three for the Bobcats.
Ohio was playing catch up after EKU scored a goal early in the first half. As the game progressed, Ohio’s defense settled in and its offence came alive scoring all three goals after halftime.
“We made a few adjustments at half time and I thought it helped. In the first half we were too content to sit in and drop and let them come at us. In the second half we defended higher up the field and that made a big difference,” head coach Stacy Strauss said.
The offense took aggressive control of the ball and the defense moved up the line, giving Ohio the dominant position in the second half.
Despite a steady rainfall throughout the match, Ohio weathered the storm and was able to pull out the 3-1 victory.
Ohio will leave Chessa Field and go on the road for their next two games against Cincinnati on April 27 and Dayton on May 5.
