Ohio AG Says Youth Films Should Not Show Smoking
< < Back to ohio-ag-says-youth-films-should-not-show-smokingOhio Attorney General Mike DeWine and 37 of his counterparts elsewhere are urging movie studios to take smoking out of films rated for youth audiences.
DeWine's office says those attorneys general have made the request in a letter sent to the leaders of ten major movie studios. They also want studios to avoid displaying tobacco brands in future films and include anti-tobacco spots on DVDs of films that depict smoking.
DeWine says such depictions have a negative influence on children and their health.
The letter to studio officials comes two months after a U.S. Surgeon General's report on youth smoking noted that seeing common depictions of smoking in the movies makes youngsters more likely to smoke.
