West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin says the company is expected to invest $4 million in the expansion that will more than double the current workforce at the plant.

 

Tomblin joined company executives, local economic development officials and others at groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday afternoon.

 

"This expansion announcement from Nippon Thermostat is another great example of the strong business relationship we've built with a number of Japanese companies," said Tomblin.

 

Putnam County Commissioner Joe Haynes says the expansion is evidence to workers that county officials have done something right.

 

"The expansion means they've been pleased with doing business together, and they plan to be here for a while," Haynes said.

 

Nippon Thermostat of America supplies engine thermostats for automotive manufacturers including Honda and Toyota. 

 

The West Virginia facility was built in 2004 and was the company's first plant in the United States.

 

The expanded manufacturing facility is expected to be completed by March.
