Health care in Appalachia will be the focus of this year's Appalachian Regional Commission Conference, being held next week in eastern Kentucky.

Gov. Steve Beshear says the conference offers an opportunity for representatives of the 13 states in the commission to share ideas and practices that are creating better living conditions in Appalachia.

Among topics to be discussed at the conference at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in Prestonsburg Sept. 7 through 9 are expansion of children's health care access, preventing adolescent substance abuse, improving children's oral health and using information technology to improve the quality of health care.

States that have counties included in the region represented by the ARC are Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
