Williamstown Suffers Setback Against Wirt County

Six turnovers, two on fourth down, led to a back-and-forth battle through the first half for the Williamstown Yellow Jackets hosting the Wirt County Tigers. With a true battle through the second half, it came to an end with a 35-0 victory for Wirt County.
After a punt on the first drive for Williamstown, the Tigers took over the ball at their own 20-yard line and made a big drive downfield.
It started with the Tigers quarterback Joshua Trimbley drawing the defense offside, and then using 13 plays to make it to the 8-yard line. They used eight runs in the drive to wear down the defense, and attacked a weak zone pass defense over the middle to get deep into Yellow Jacket territory. However, they landed on a fourth-and-1, and up the middle came Nick Meadows for the Yellow Jackets to stuff the run and force a big turnover.
It didn’t last long, as the Yellow Jackets finished that drive with a three-and-out, once again handing the momentum to Wirt County. Immediately following, the Tigers made use of incredible field position, starting on the Yellow Jacket’s side of the 50, and got the ball in on just four plays. Trimbley dropped back on first-and-10 from the 35, and found wide receiver Gavin Goodnight streaking down the right sideline behind the cornerback, who was watching the quarterback the whole time. With the safeties deep and toward the middle, Goodnight had no one to bother him on a trot down the sideline and into the end zone, bringing the score to 7-0 for Wirt County.
Williamstown once again fell apart on their next drive, on the fifth play when they ran up the middle and the ball popped out. It was immediately recovered by Damian Rhodes for Wirt County. The Tigers once again capitalized on the momentum with a big nine-play drive, including two fourth down conversions. The second of the conversions came from the nine-and-a-half yard line, with just inches to go, Damian Rhodes reversed field and broke tackles from every player to lead to a one-yard score for Trimbley and a 14-0 lead for the Tigers.
That would be the end of the first half scoring, as neither team seemed able to hold on to the ball on a cold night.
Wirt County was just able to add on in the second half, though, and took home a big victory to improve to 5-2. Meanwhile Williamstown drops to 3-4 on the season.
