A tight Ohio House race is headed to a recount after official tallies put the Republican incumbent just 14 votes ahead of his Democratic challenger.

Final election results posted late Monday place state Rep. Al Landis of Dover less than three-hundredths of a percent ahead of Joshua O'Farrell of New Philadelphia.

Landis garnered 23,392 votes combined in Holmes and Tuscarawas counties, to O'Farrell's 23,378.

The race was one of three contests in the 99-member House that was too close to call on election night.

Democrats hope the official canvass that's required to be completed by Tuesday will give them at least 40 seats. That blocks the GOP majority from more easily placing issues on ballots.

Democrats believe they've won a competitive district in northeast Ohio, giving them 39 seats.
