There is so much information about health and nutrition coming at us through social media, radio, television and print, it is difficult to decide what is the best for your health. To juice or not to juice?  To detoxifying or not to detoxify?  For optimal results, should you consume one-ingredient foods? Deciphering what is best for us individually is necessary, but also time consuming, costly, and, at times experimental.

The other morning I was scanning through radio stations and heard a group talking about juicing.  The group consisted of two men and two women.  One man (man #1) said he didn’t want to lose weight for health reasons, but, rather to be able to fit in to his clothing once again;  he had a gruff, raspy voice, was jolly I was quickly given the impression that he ate a lot of processed foods and had gained a considerable amount of weight. The other man (man #2) was considered by the group to be the healthy eater. Man #1 commented that he had gone in to a local juice bar and fifteen minutes after he had eaten he “was higher than a kite!”  “How did that happen?” he wanted to know.  Man #2 explained that just such a topic had been discussed on Dr. Oz. Processed foods turn to sludge in the human body because all of the nutrients have been removed due to the way in which the product was processed.

Our bodies do not know what to do with processed foods because if we do not know what the ingredients are there is no way our bodies do either.  So, when Man #1 consumed all those beautiful nutrients his bodily mechanisms were electrified by the absorption…the nutrients had a place to go.

In doing some research, I’ve found four groups of food considered to be Belly Blasting Carbohydrates:

·       #4, Berries and Cherries – Blueberries, Cherries, Blackberries and Raspberries

·       #3, Sprouted Grain Breads

·       #2, Quinoa

·       #1, Beans, Lentils and Legumes

In addition, I came across a list considered to be Top 10 Detoxifying Foods:

1.     Kale

2.     Onions

3.     Garlic

4.     Blueberries

5.     Carrots

6.     Strawberries

7.     Cabbage

8.     Collard Greens

9.     Broccoli

10.   Watercress

So, if you are on a quest for an UNPROCESSED YOU the two lists I have shared will hopefully escort you on your journey!  Give the delicious BLACK BEAN CHILI dish below a try!
