The Athens Bulldogs went on the road and continued their hot streak while knocking off Nelsonville-York 71-47 Friday night in the county’s biggest rivalry. The victory was the Bulldog’s fifth-straight win and first win in the TVC-Ohio.
Nelsonville-York came out firing in the opening quarter getting two big threes from Jay Elliott and another from Marc Carter to help notch the score up at 16 with the first period coming to a close.
From there it was all Bulldogs.
Athens outscored the Bucs 15-3 in the second quarter opening. Stellar freshmen Ibi Watson and Zacchia Saltzman provided the spark for the Bulldogs that helped them take control of the game. Watson led all scorers with 23 points and Saltzman wasn’t too far behind with 19.
N-Y’s Colt Adams attempted to bring the Buckeyes back into the game in the third quarter with six quick points. The Bucks got as close as 10, but free throw shooting by Athens helped ice the win for Jeff Skinner’s squad.
Athens improves to 7-1 on the season and matches up with Warren on Tuesday. Nelsonville-York’s five-game winning streak was snapped and the Buckeyes look to get back on track against Meigs.
