Community Members Rally To Keep Jesus Portrait
< < Back to community-members-rally-keep-jesus-portraitA Southeast Ohio city is rallying around its school district after an out-of-state group demanded the superintendent remove a portrait of Jesus hanging in the middle school.
A Facebook group started Friday supporting Jackson City School District now has about 11,000 members.
The portrait has hung in the building since 1947 and was donated by a student group.
The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation sent the superintendent a letter January 2 demanding the portrait be removed.
The superintendent has said he won't remove the portrait without an order from a judge or the school board.
A school board meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. is expected to draw a large crowd.
