Women’s Choir, Medieval Music This Weekend At Union Hall Theater

Female voices and medieval melodies will echo throughout the Union Hall Theater when the Calliope Feminist Choir joins forces with Silent Lion this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The Athens-based choir will perform several songs that were composed or arranged by women, followed by Chesterhill residents John and Barbiel Saunders with their unique blend of medieval, Celtic, bluegrass, Spanish and original acoustic music.
Founded in 1993, the Calliope Feminist Choir grew out of the women's music movement of the 1970s. Directed by Nancy Pierce and accompanied on piano by Lynn Sullivan, the choir is made up of 30 to 40 singers of all ages. The group is affiliated with Sister Singers’ Network, connecting its members to other women’s choirs around the U.S. that share its musical and social vision.
Silent Lion regularly performs at Renaissance fairs and other venues around the country, and have performed several times at the Union Hall Theater. The group's recordings are available at www.myspace.com/silentlionmusic.
