A couple is in custody after investigators say they were transporting heroin and brought their baby with them.

Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly says 34-year-old David Barstow II and 29-year-old Shauntelle Barstow were taking the heroin back to their hometown of Albany when they were stopped.

Kelly says the Narcotics Enforcement Team stopped the car on US Route 33 in Nelsonville and found 13 doses of heroin and one chunk of heroin Wednesday.

The Barstow's 18-month-old child was taken from the car and released to a family member.

Both Barstows were taken to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
