Apartment Complex Adjusts Parking Spot Size After Unusual Incident

An unusual situation at The Summit at Coates Run Apartments has caused the complex to reduce the size of its parking spaces.
After part of the parking lot began to slide down the hill, several parking spaces were lost.
Athens Code Enforcement Director John Paszke said that due to this loss, the complex did not have the minimum number of parking spaces required by code.
"They [the complex owners] went to the Board of Zoning Appeals to ask for a variance in reducing the size of some of their parking spaces so that they would have the adequate amount of parking spaces, and that variance was granted," Paszke said.
The downhill slide of the parking lot was first noticed last year.
