Solo Percussionist Coming to OU-Zanesville
< < Back to solo-percussionist-coming-ou-zanesvilleOhio University Zanesville will welcome Joseph Van Hassel to the stage on Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m. in the Elson Hall Auditorium.
Van Hassel is well-versed in a wide variety of musical styles, including contemporary, orchestral, world, marching and jazz. His performance will consist of music for solo percussion instruments.
He will be performing pieces on vibraphone, snare drum with electronic accompaniment, orchestra bells with spoken text, and bass drum.
The music features a mix of more “modern” sounding pieces and music that is more immediately accessible.
Contrasting sounds of different unique percussion instruments will be featured in this visually exciting and theatrical performance. In addition to performing, Hassel will discuss the pieces.
“I’ll be giving an introduction that will serve to explain some of the more ‘out there’ concepts that occur in some of the works,” he explained.
The concert is free and open to the public as part of Ohio University Zanesville’s Third Thursday Events Series.
