Third Thursday Talk German Americans and WWI – By Jann Adams
With the outbreak of WWI, German-Americans experienced a backlash of ethnic discrimination that led to a great shift in cultural identity. As once respected citizens and leaders in their communities, Germans now had to defend their patriotism and
production. Threatening to take all that away are the temperance societies with a firm grasp in Ohio… leading Washington County to become dry in the early 20th century. But why are we telling you all of this when you can learn for yourself during this fun bar crawl in historic downtown Marietta? Oh, and don’t forget you’ll be drinking for a good cause. This event serves as a fundraiser for both The Castle & Marietta Main Street. Cheers!
