Victoria Woodhull
March 22 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Free
She was the first woman to run for president – and did it before women were allowed to vote.
She was a pioneer for women’s rights, but was virtually written out of the history of women’s suffrage.
She faced the worst sort of harassment and verbal abuse for her stances, but refused to back down.
She was an advocate for free love in an era in which women who had liaisons outside of marriage were social pariahs, when even writing about the topic was shocking and indelicate.
She was an advocate for women’s financial independence and ran the first woman-owned brokerage firm with the backing of Cornelius Vanderbilt.
She refused to back down from the truth, even when she was sent to jail for it.
She was Ohio’s own Victoria Woodhull and she’s the subject of our next Lecture Series event on March 22 at 6pm.
Please join us as Robin Schuricht discusses this amazing woman’s forgotten contributions to American history. Admission is free.
