The Trimble girls’ basketball team looked to extend its life in the sectional tournament as it took on Miller High School at Meigs High School Monday Night.
After a big first quarter Trimble found itself struggling to find the bottom of the net going 11 for 61 from the field.
The Trimble Lady Tomcats (4-17, 4-12 TVC) started the game hot as they used a strong defensive effort to not allow a single field goal in the first quarter. Miller’s only point came from a free throw. The Lady Tomcats also started with a strong offensive game as they finished the quarter leading 10-1.
The dominating Trimble defense was to be short lived, however, as Miller turned the tables and won the second quarter 19-4. This gave Miller the lead going into the locker room 20-14.
The Lady Tomcats came out in the third quarter focused and ready to get back in the ballgame. Trimble still had difficulty finding the basket but turned up the defensive intensity. Trimble and Miller tied in the third quarter with both teams scoring eight. This left the score 28-23 at the end of the third.
The fourth quarter was taken over by Miller as the Trimble defense began to ease off again. Miller held Trimble to five points in the quarter, winning the quarter 13-5.
Leading the way for Trimble was Tia Savage who finished with nine points, 15 rebounds and three assists. Backing Savage up was teammate Tia Alteir with six points and eight rebounds.
The top scorer for Miller was Ali Bray with 12 points. Supporting her was Jacy Dutiel with nine points, 16 rebounds and five blocks. Haley Crawford also chipped in nine points on the night.
Although Trimble lost the game they did not lose every statistical category. The Lady Tomcats forced Miller into 20 turnovers as Trimble only committed 14. Miller did win the rebound category snagging 48 boards to Trimble’s 35. Also, Miller shot 33% from the field while Trimble shot a mere 18%.
Even with the loss Trimble coach Dave Richards was optimistic with the team he has coming back next season.
Miller advanced to play Waterford February 15 at 6:15.
