Veterans Honored At Ceremony In Athens

Veterans were honored at events around Ohio in recognition of Veterans Day Monday.

Hundreds participated in the annual Veteran's Day Parade through downdown Athens and hundreds more watched as floats, bands and others passed down a chilly Court Street.

Similar events were held throughout the state.

The USS Cod Submarine Memorial in Cleveland offered free tours of the historic World War II vessel with a ceremony including a flag-raising and salute fired by the sub's deck gun.

Cadets fired 21-gun salute at a University of Akron ceremony, and parades were held in several other Ohio cities.

The National Underground Freedom Center in Cincinnati highlighted military service by African Americans from the Civil War through World War II with a Civil War re-enactment.
