The Ohio Bobcats (3-1) capped off their first weekend back in action with a 4-0 victory over the Butler Bulldogs (3-1) on Sunday thanks to dominating pitching.

Michael Klein got the start for the Bobcats and had a quick 1-2-3 inning in the first. Shortstop Tyler Finkler led off with a solo shot over the left field wall, giving Ohio the 1-0 lead early.

Ohio added two more runs in the bottom of the second.

Anthony Mrosla singled to left and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Mateus Vakuda. Center-fielder, Devin Garcia roped a doubled into the left-center gap, scoring Mrosla. Finkler came up to the plate and singled to left, scoring Garcia and increasing Ohio’s lead to 3-0.

Klein worked another 1-2-3 inning in the third and also in the fourth. Klein’s day was over after four scoreless innings pitched with four strikeouts.

Tom Colletti came in to pitch for Ohio in the fifth and worked a clean inning.

Ohio added one more run in the bottom half of the fifth. Evan Bourn singled to right to start the inning, Tony Giannini reached base after being hit by a pitch. Mrosla singled to left to set up Vakuda with bases loaded with one out.

Vakuda singled to right, scoring Bourn and increasing Ohio’s lead to 4-0. The ‘Cats left the bases loaded after Garcia and Finkler were retired.

Colletti shut down the Bulldogs in the sixth inning and Jake Rudnicki made his first appearance of the season in the seventh inning.

Rudnicki worked around a leadoff walk and a single with two huge strikeouts and a great defensive catch from Bourn in left field.

Rudnicki slammed the door on Butler’s only chance to cross the plate in the eighth inning with a huge strikeout to end the inning.

Closer Jake Roehn came in to close the game out in the ninth and recorded two strikeouts to finish off the win for Ohio.

Considering the Bobcats let up 15 runs in the first matchup between these two team, this was a huge victory to build momentum for their next series next week.

Ohio travels to Emerson, Georgia to face Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (1-2).

The Bobcats and Cougars start their series Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a double header on Saturday with first pitch at 1 p.m. for game one and 4 p.m. for game two. The four-game series concludes Sunday at 11 a.m.
