Crossing Boundaries Extra: Graham Weber
< < Back to crossingWOUB's Mark Hellenberg recently welcomed Austin, Tx., singer-songwriter Graham Weber, who performed songs from his most recent release, Women (2011) and talked about growing up in Ohio and breaking into the Austin music scene.
Like Slaid Cleaves (who recorded one of Weber's songs on his 2006 Unsung album), Weber has established himself amongst his fans and peers as a serious songwriter and performer.
Co-produced by Britton Beisenherz, Women's guest female roster includes Carrie Rodriguez, Betty Soo, Amanda Shires and his wife, Michelle Keller.
The recording runs the gamut from a lushly produced sound with horns, strings, and overdubs to sparse songs with just fingerpicked-guitar and voice. Most of the material is introspective, confessional and rather dark.
Weber wrote the songs during a tough period in his marriage. "This is definitely the most personal thing I've ever done, and to be honest, I don't know if I could ever get that personal again, or even want to," he said.
