Maysville Panthers Preview
< < Back to maysville-panthers-previewThe Maysville Panthers head into the 2011 football season with a lot to look forward to. This football team finished with a 5-5 record last year but ended the season hot on a two game winning streak. Head coach Whit Parks thinks that he has a “good, competitive football team” and he hopes to win a lot of football games this season. Some returning players that were key to the team last year are RB Jeremy Wilson, LB Bryce Sidwell, and QB/DB Seth Brown. Wilson led the team in rushing last season just coming up short of 1,000 yards, and Brown helped out the secondary with 4 interceptions.
Leading the battle in the trenches for the Panthers are Joe Hammers and Tyler Moore. Hammers and Moore will be seniors this season playing both ways on the defensive and offensive lines. Although Maysville will be relying on the play of their veterans this season, they also have a few players whose names will be new to the fans but are sure to be liked. Speedster Heath Murkell will blow past defensive secondaries when he lines up at wide receiver and he’ll speed by offensive tackles when he lines up at defensive end. Another name to watch is LB/FB Austin Nolan who is only in his junior year of high school.
Maysville doesn’t want to get ahead of themselves, so they are taking their season one game at a time and looking forward to their opening game against Columbus Academy in Gahanna, Ohio. The Panthers look to continue their two-game winning streak (from last year) and gain some momentum as their second game is against MVL powerhouse, Tri-Valley.
