Lightning Strike Causes Outage For Athens City Buildings

Phone lines and Internet are down at two Athens city buildings due to a lightning strike.
City officials say the city service garage and the water treatment plant on West State Street were both affected.
A storm moved through the region overnight with heavy thunder and lightning.
Because of the outage, the Yard Waste Request Line is temporarily disabled.
The city is asking residents who wish to schedule a pick up to call 593-7636 until further notice.
City officials are working on the issue, but no one knows when service will return.
