The Athens County Sheriff's Office is increasing patrols in specific target areas in the county.
Sheriff Pat Kelly posted on facebook this morning that Athens County, including Athens City, has seen a rise in the number of burglaries and breaking and entering.
"I'll add another cruiser on the midnight shift," Kelly said. "There will be a couple of reserve officers in that vehicle in targeted areas, whether it be The Plains, Chauncey or surrounding communities or even rural areas."
The Sheriff's Office is focusing efforts on The Plains which Kelly says has been a recent target.
Kelly said the Sheriff's Office just arrested a man involved in nine breaking and entering thefts in The Plains and Chauncey areas. He says they also have another suspect that they are watching who may be involved with other thefts in the county.
Kelly warns that people should keep personal items like purses, wallets and laptops out of sight in their homes and make sure their doors are locked.
"Obviously we want people to be vigilant and protecting their home, but we have a pretty good idea of who this and we're going to catch him soon," Kelly said.
