Major Playoff Implications in MVL

The MVL provides excitement every week and week 10 is sure to be no exception. With playoff implications on the line, Sheridan at New Lexington and Philo at Tri-Valley headline what will be an intense week.

While the Generals and Panthers will be playing a regular season game, you might as well consider it a playoff game. Following last week’s huge loss to Tri-Valley, Sheridan (8-1, 6-1) dropped to the #8 seed in Division III, Region 11. That means they face a must-win against rival New Lexington (7-2, 5-2). Even with a Generals win, it will not generate enough points to give Sheridan a home game in the first round.

The Panthers are also in the hunt for a playoff berth despite currently sitting at #15 in DIII, R11. If New Lex hopes to steal a spot in the postseason they must defeat the Generals, as well as needing teams ahead of them to lose. If everything falls into place, it would cap off a tremendous turnaround for New Lex after finishing just 2-8 last season.

Tri-Valley, on the other hand, has already locked up a playoff spot, but that does not mean they have nothing to play for. The Scotties are currently the #3 seed in Division II, Region 7, which means a victory over the Electrics would all but guarantee a home playoff game for Tri-Valley. If Jack Anderson Stadium were to host a first-round game, it would be the first in school history. Unfortunately for the Scotties, they can get no higher than the #2 seed, since Marion-Franklin has locked up the #1 seed.
