Business Booms During Dads Weekend At Ohio University
< < Back to business-booms-during-dads-weekend-ohio-universityThis weekend is Ohio University’s annual Dads Weekend and likely a boon for area businesses.
Additionaly people in town for the weekend’s activity means more shoppers.
College Bookstore Manager Gene Arms stated that the bookstore’s sales increase during family weekend events like Dads Weekend.
“The kids will point out ‘I’d like this shirt or that shirt,’ and it’s always great to have the parents in town with a little extra spending money,” he said.
College Bookstore appeals to both students and their dads by selling “Dads Weekend” shirts every year.
Another uptown business that benefits from Dads Weekend is Jackie O’s Pub and Brewery.
Jackie O’s partners with the Empower Campaign this weekend to host a beer-tasting event for students and dads, donating a portion of the ticket profits to Empower.
There are three different tastings occur at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. Tickets are tickets at $15 dollars each.
"The tasting includes seven different beers, two of which neither the dads nor the students have probably ever tasted," said Brew Master Brad Clark. "The tasting will also bring more customers to the pub."
Along with bars and retail stores, hotels surrounding Athens specifically advertise for these family weekends.
The Baymont Inn, Hampton Inn and Ohio University Inn are all sold out for both Friday and Saturday during Dads Weekend.
From bars to lodging, Athens businesses can expect to see additional profits this weekend.
