New Athens Task Force Gets To Work
< < Back to new-athens-task-force-gets-workRemember those rowdy, disruptive street parties in Athens last spring?
Local officials certainly do.
And they don't want any repeat performances.
It's the job of the Multi House Party Task Force to develop suggestions for putting an end to the problem.
Actually, says Ron Lucas, the Task Force has identified a series of problems that need to be addressed to solve the larger problem.
"Untenable crowd size being a signficant one," he says. "A small area with a lot of people."
Also, he says, "A lot of overconsumption of alcohol which causes some removal of inhbitions."
Lucas is the Deputy Service Safety Director for Athens and he presided over the first meeting of the Multi House Party Task Force on Wednesday.
Lucas says the new group will be meeting every Wednesday through the end of August and wants to have a report ready for Athens City Council in September.
The Task Force has 12 members.
Some are city officials and residents and some are Ohio University officials and students.
