Guernsey Co. Residents Targets Of Jury Duty Scam
< < Back to guernsey-co-residents-targets-jury-duty-scamA scam making its way across the country has found its way into Guernsey County.
According to Common Please Court Judge David Ellwood, citizens are receiving phone calls, voice mail messages and emails advising that they have missed jury duty and need to pay a $500 fine or face arrest.
More than a dozen states have issued warnings about the scam, which targets victims' personal information, asking for social security and credit card numbers.
All jurors for the entire court system within Guernsey County are contacted by mail with a notice bearing Ellwood's name.
Ellwood says jurors will never be summoned via email, text message or phone.
Anyone with questions about jury duty should call the Jury Commission at 740-732-9361.
