The Trimble Tomcats jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated the Eastern Eagles 68-56 Tuesday night. The Tomcats got the win on the road as they forced the Eagles into bad shots all night.

The Tomcats opened up the game with a tough full-court press that forced the Eagles out of their offensive flow. The Eagle offense couldn’t get going until late in the first half when they got a spark from reserve Christian Speelman, who played in most of the junior varsity game as well. Speelman scored 10 points and had five rebounds in the second quarter.

The game tightened up in the second half as Eastern’s offense started to come together. Max Carnahan began to heat up as he scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half. As the Eagles were scoring, the Tomcats struggled from the free throw line, which brought the game within single digits multiple times.

Trimble held off Eastern’s valiant comeback though, thanks to Jake Kish who had 19 points and seven rebounds, and Cody Bragg who contributed 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and six rebounds.

“Jake played a solid game, he was getting rebounds, guarding the best player defensively, and he was getting to the middle of the floor where his hot spot is," Trimble head coach Curt Moore said of Kish following the game. "He was being effective in scoring when he was able to score.”

The Tomcats' next game is December 7 when they host the Belpre Golden Eagles.
