Shifflet Sentenced To Five Years In Prison

Thomas Shifflet, 76, was sentenced under Judge Michael Ward Wednesday at the Athens County Court of Common Pleas.
Shifflet voluntarily pled no contest to three remaining counts of gross imposition, charges that jurors were previously unable to unanimously decide. A previous charge of rape was amended to one count gross sexual imposition at the sentencing hearing Wednesday.
Shifflet was convicted March 18 of gross sexual imposition with a child under the age of 13 and was found not guilty on one count of sexual imposition.
Shifflet was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision and will be classified as a Tier II sexual predator. He has been ordered to pay $6,490.64 on a two-year restitution.
A sentencing hearing has begun in the trial of a Glouster man convicted of gross sexual imposition with a child under the age of 13.

Shifflet is accused of sexually molesting five young girls and was convicted March 18 of gross sexual imposition with a child under the age of 13 and was found not guilty on one count of sexual imposition. Jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision on one count of rape and two remaining counts of gross sexual imposition.
Shifflet will be classified as a Tier II sexual predator and could face between one and five years in prison.
