OU Field Hockey Practicing On Tennis Court, Playing All 2013 Games Away
< < Back to ou-field-hockey-practicing-tennis-court-playing-all-2013-games-awayThe Ohio University field hockey team will play all of its scheduled games in 2013 away from Athens because of construction at Pruitt Field.
As WOUB reported Aug. 28, Ohio University is spending $540,000 extra to replace the drainage system below the turf field, and construction isn't expected to be complete until the end of October. The project will cost $2.29 million instead of the original $1.75 million price tag.
Because of that, the field hockey team is unable to play or practice at the field.
Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations Tom Symonds said the Bobcats will practice on the campus tennis courts "for the forseeable future" while Pruitt is remodeled.
Half of the six outdoor tennis courts at the university have been fitted with field turf similar to the turf used at Pruitt Field.
The team will play all of its games away from home in 2013.
