RedStorm Routed 8-1 By Davenport
< < Back to redstorm-routed-8-1-davenportNo. 21 ranked Davenport University cruised past the Rio Grande RedStorm on Saturday during the finale of the Marge Evans Women’s Soccer Classic at Evan E. Davis Field. The Panthers outscored the RedStorm 8-1 in a stunning victory.
Freshman Shameeka Fishley contributed with a trio of goals, while junior Mackenzie VanDerWarf added two goals to help out the Panthers.
The Panthers dominated every offensive statistic, outshooting the RedStorm 31-4 overall, 19-1 on goal.
“Just simply not good enough,” Rio coach Callum Morris said. “If we want to be successful this year, we’re going to have to find some heart. We created some chances, but if we don’t work hard as a group, we aren’t going to get anywhere.”
The struggling RedStorm found some light when freshman, Laurel Amstutz notched her first career goal on a breakaway which led to an easy shot at an open net.
Junior goalkeeper Allison Keeney captured 11 saves for the RedStorm. On the other end of the field, aside from the goal from Amstutz, Davenport net-minders Michele Marcus and Lexi Cruise did not face any other shots on goal.
Rio (2-2) will return on Evan E. Davis Field Wednesday to face Kentucky Christian University for a non-conference match at 5 p.m.
