Canton Man Gets Life In Slaying Of Burned Ohio Woman
< < Back to canton-man-gets-life-slaying-burned-ohio-womanA Canton man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole in the death of a severely burned 29-year-old woman who was found wailing along an eastern Ohio road.
The judge in Zanesville followed the jury's recommendation in sentencing 34-year-old LaFonse Dixon Jr. on Monday. The jury that convicted Dixon had recommended life instead of the death penalty.
Dixon's attorneys argued his life should be spared and told jurors he had a troubled upbringing.
Two women pleaded guilty in the case to avoid the death penalty. They testified that the trio took 29-year-old Celeste Fronsman to rural Muskingum County, where she was set on fire and abandoned.
Muskingum County Common Pleas Judge Kelly Cottrill called the crime "horrific."
