Ohio Falls To Miami, Season Comes To A Close
< < Back to ohio-falls-miami-season-comes-closeNov. 8 was the date set for the rematch between rivals Ohio and Miami as the RedHawks sought revenge and the Bobcats looked for a chance to extend their season one more day. Miami walked away from the contest with a 2-1 win, eliminating Ohio from the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Ohio first reached the board in the ninth minute with a goal from Jessica Jue off a pass to the left side by Andrea Biegalski. This was Jue’s seventh goal of the season and gave the Bobcats an early lead that lasted the rest of the first half.
Miami had three potential scoring opportunities in the form of penalty corners but were not successful as the Ohio defense stood its ground. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the same cannot be said about the second half.
The beginning of the second half consisted of a series of three penalty corners for Miami, resulting in two goals.
The first came in the 39th minute as Valentina Neira launched a missile into the net off of an assist by Sid Marcum. This then tied the game at one.
Following Neria’s goal were two more corners, the second ending in another goal for the RedHawks. Bea Dechant got the ball past Ohio goalkeeper Brittany Walker thanks to as assist from teammate, Neira. Dechant’s goal put the RedHawks up 2-1 where it would stay the duration of the game.
Ohio ended the game with a series of five penalty corners within the last two minutes. Miami’s strong defense ensured the shots resulting from the corners would not make it into the net.
Both teams had a total of 12 shots and only had one penalty corner separating them with Ohio’s eight and Miami’s seven.
The Bobcats now enter the offseason, finishing with a 7-10 overall record and 3-2 in the MAC.
