Athens Man Killed In Car Crash Along SR 278
< < Back to crash-kills-athens-manAn Athens man died early Thursday morning when he failed to make a left curve on State Route 278.
James R. Cunningham, 33, of Athens was traveling south on the highway when he failed to negotiate a left curve, traveled over the center line, struck an embankment and overturned.
He was pronounced dead a the scene and taken to Cardaras Funeral Home, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Cunningham was not wearing a seat belt.
A 17-year-old passenger in the vehicle escaped from the truck unharmed. He was wearing a seat belt.
According to the Highway Patrol, alcohol was a factor in the crash. It remains under investigation.
