Report: Athens County Woman Dies From Flu-Related Illness
< < Back to report-athens-county-woman-dies-flu-related-illnessWSAZ reported Thursday that an Athens County woman has died from the flu.
According to the report, the 31-year-old woman, whose name wasn't listed in the report, died this week of H1N1 at a Columbus hospital after first being taken to an Athens hospital.
H1N1 – also known as swine flu – was first recognized in the spring of 2009, and was later declared a global pandemic. The pandemic ended in 2010, and Dr. James R. Gaskell told WSAZ that there is no pandemic now.
Gaskell also told WSAZ that about 1-2 people per week are showing up at an Athens hospital with positive flu tests.
