Baldwin Wallace Stings Marietta To End Win Streak
< < Back to baldwin-wallace-stings-marietta-end-win-streakThe Pios were unable to keep up with the high-scoring Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets as they fell 85-64 Saturday. With the loss, Marietta falls to 8-5 overall and 2-4 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Turnovers were key to the Pioneers’ loss. Marietta had 13 in just the first half which resulted in a 42-25 deficit. Although shooting just under 40 percent from the field, Baldwin Wallace was able to push the lead to 29 early in the second half.
Baldwin Wallace’s Audrey Smolik led all scorers with 20 points and teammate Lexi Rohrbach followed up with 19 points and six rebounds of her own. The Yellow Jackets shot 45% for the game and outscored the Pios in the paint by 20. They also capitalized on Marietta turnovers, gathering 20 points off turnovers.
Senior Tori Dixon led the Pioneers with 14 points and three assists. Freshman Lindsey Eckstein did not score but grabbed a game-high seven boards.
In spite of the blowout loss, one player inched her way closer to history. Dixon needs only 51 points to reach 1,000 for her career. She will have an opportunity to reach that milestone at home as the Pios have two home games coming up on Jan. 15 and Jan. 18.
Marietta plays host to the University of Mount Union on Wednesday, Jan. 15, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
