Warming Trend May Lead To Flooding
< < Back to warming-trend-may-lead-floodingThe state is warning Ohioans to beware the potential of floods as temperatures increase and snow turns to rain.
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency says a small amount of rain combined with heavy snow accumulation can cause flooding in some areas.
The agency says a midwinter or early spring thaw can produce large amounts of runoff quickly.
Water that can't penetrate frozen ground runs off the surface and flows into lakes, streams and rivers, causing extra water to spill over their banks.
The state says Ohioans should keep an eye on icy conditions, secure buildings in flood-prone areas and have an escape plan in case of flooding
